Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) Pricing

If you've done some research regarding various hair loss solutions, by now you will have come across Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP).

If you’re looking for a long-term solution for your concerns around hair loss or scarring, SMP could be exactly what you’re looking for.

Your investment in SMP

I have been doing Scalp Micropigmentation procedures for a long time—nearly 11 years to be exact!

Over the years I have seen tremendous growth in the SMP industry, and this is both good and bad... (I'll save that for another post!)

But one thing that is absolutely consistent is my belief in delivering value to my customers.

With multiple options in the market for your hair loss or scarring coverage solutions, you’ll see price points from tens of dollars all the way to tens of thousands of dollars.

At Headways, you can expect to pay $3500 plus tax for a full SMP course.

This includes:

  • 3 SMP sessions (2-3 hours each)

  • Complimentary touch-up one month after the procedure

  • Guaranteed results with minimal maintenance

My prices have never increased in the 11 years I have been doing Scalp Micropigmentation.

You will be getting a brand new hairline, filled in back, sides and crown! Three appointments and a brand new look! No scars, no powders, no pills, or scars.

Crown Scalp Treatments Costs

Some men (and women) do not require a full scalp treatment.

It may not be necessary to do a whole new hairline.

In these cases the client will have hair loss in the crown and/or surrounding area.

Usually there is usually a large circular shape at the crown which has very little or no hair.

The cost of filling in and blending of these areas can be done somewhere between $2500 to $3000 depending on the extent of hair loss.

Again, it's usually a 2 to 3 hour session with 3 appointments and a touch-up a month after the last session.

It will require the rest of the hair to be kept at a minimum length or it will look unnatural, so bear this in mind if you're considering this as an option.

Scar Coverage Costs

One of the most popular treatment options for my clients who have had marginal success with hair transplant surgery is Scalp Micropigmentation camouflage.

With scars, again they range in size, shape, and thickness.

We start at a $150 per hour minimum fee for the first treatment of a scar. However, scars are sometimes reluctant to take pigment and seem to 'push' it out.

It usually takes at least 3 one-hour sessions to see a noticeable result, but sometimes more sessions are needed to keep it from fading in the future.

A consultation will cover this thoroughly and we can assess the approximate number of appointments needed.

Note:

Different types of hair transplant scars will vary as all scars are different.

Strip scars can be fairly simple work, whereas the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) can involve many, many tiny scars that need to be covered, and can take several appointments.

Alopecia Treatment Costs

Alopecia is one area of Scalp Micropigmentation that needs a skilled technician for good results.

Understanding the skin, and how to blend the patches of hair with areas of no hair on the scalp is somewhat tricky and takes more work than a regular SMP procedure.

More than 3 sessions are generally needed, and the skin needs to be treated differently than regular scalp skin.

Many clients with Alopecia ask me if the process of Scalp Micropigmentation will do more damage to their skin, however the opposite is true!

SMP stimulates the scalp and helps invigorate the skin.

I have had clients who have told me that they have seen very fine 'baby' hair start to grow in areas where there was previously no hair at all.

This does not mean that the hair is going to grow back thicker and with any length; what I will stress is that SMP will not do any harm to the scalp.

With the different types of Alopecia, mostly I see clients with Areata, and some have facial hair that has disappeared in patches. These areas can also be filled in successfully using SMP.

Things to look out for when finding an SMP provider

Like any profession, there are providers who will do SMP for a lower price.

While competition in the market is ideal for consumers, sometimes these cost savings come at the expense of quality of product and skill level.

SMP is a skill, and not just "putting a bunch of dots" on your head—this is an investment that will stay with you for life.

Just like in 2004, when the furniture salesman told you your pleather couch would hold up forever like real leather, you will eventually find out there is a huge difference between knock-offs and genuine product.

SMP lasts a long time when done correctly, and your investment in yourself is sure to hold up if you choose a qualified provider.

Because the last thing you want is to be shelling out for laser removal or procedure corrections five years down the road when you discover your cheap procedure was cheap for a reason!
